How To Format A Run Order

The Run Order column has several icons which enable you to format what you see, and don't see and to add, remove and move stories.

There are three rows:

Working with stories in the Run Order

add_story.png Add story: this button will add a new story to the bottom of the current run Order. When you click it, a box will open which where you can enter the new story number.

delete.png Delete: This button will allow you to delete one or multiple stories.

To delete a story select it and click the Delete button.

You can select multiple individual stories to delete at the same time. Press CTRL and click on the individual stories you want to select then click Delete.

Or you can delete a group of stories at the same time. Press on SHIFT and click on the first story and the last story then click Delete.

cloak.png Cloak/Uncloak: To remove a story from the prompt output you can hide it using the Cloak function. Click on the story or stories you want to cloak and click the Cloak button. The story will appear grey in the Run Order and the Cloak icon will appear in red on the right of the story.

The whole story will be removed from the prompt output. It will be shown as grey in the Text Editor. When scrolling through the script any cloaked stories will be skipped over.

You can select multiple individual stories to cloak at the same time. Press on CTRL and click on the individual stories you want to select then click Cloak.

Or you can cloak a group of stories at the same time. Press on SHIFT and click on the first story and the last story then click Cloak.

To Uncloak a story, or stories, select them and click the Cloak/Uncloak button again. The uncloaked stories will be seen in the prompt output again and the red Cloak icon will be removed from the story in the Run Order list.

drop.png Drop: If you want to remove a story from its current position in the Run Order, but you don’t want to delete it, you can send it to the end by selecting the story and clicking the Drop button.

This will send the story to the bottom of the Run Order. It will have a red arrow pointing down:

You can select multiple individual stories to drop at the same time. Press on CTRL and click on the individual stories you want to select then click Drop.

Or you can drop a group of stories at the same time. Press on SHIFT and click on the first story and the last story then click Drop.

To un-drop a story, or stories, select them and drag them back up into the run order. The red dropped arrow will be removed from the story in the Run Order list.

close.png Close: When you click this button the whole story list will close.

If you want to see the story list again click on the Story List button show.png

Middle row:

Filtering items you see in the Run Order.

These buttons will only effect what the operator will see. They will not have any effect on the output that the presenter will see.

When selected the buttons will have a grey background.

Show_Hide_Book.svg Show/Hide Stories: When clicked, the stories in the Run Order will hidden. To show them click the button again.

show_hide_BOOKMARKS.png Show/Hide Bookmarks: When clicked, bookmarks within the stories in the Run Order will hidden. To show them click the button again.

show_hide_NOTES.png Show/Hide Notes: When clicked, notes within the stories in the Run Order will hidden. To show them click the button again.

These filters can be used together or independently.

So, for example, you can choose to see just bookmarks and notes, or just stories and bookmarks, or just notes.

Please note, the view that you set here is not unique to each run order. The view will be the same for all run orders.

Story column headers

Once you have stories in the Run Order you will see it begin to extend.

There are several headers that will be automatically populated.

There are three headers at the top of the Run Order: Number, Slugline and Time

Number: This displays the Story identifier. This can be either a number or a mix of numbers and letters. This will display the text within the [ ]. The first 3 characters will be visible.

Slugline: The slugline, or story title, will show the text after the [ ] until the first carriage return.

Time: This displays the time it will take to read the story calculated as an average of 180 words per minute. The time shown will increase and decrease as text is added or removed.
